Are you tired of seeing less talented people around you achieve their career goals while you spin your wheels? It’s the perfect time of year to create goals that will produce REAL results. Learn how in today’s video.
It took a while for me to realize that it’s not the norm for people to set career goals. I mean REAL career goals, the kind of career goals that you can actually hold yourself accountable to.
Here’s the skinny on creating those awesome goals:
Set clear goals.
The clearer the better. With any goal set a time table and as many specifics as you can get. Why so specific? You need to track it and the more specific the goal the more likely you are to set actions that will help you get there.
Your age range can help set a reasonable timetable for career goals.
Mix it up with short term (annual) AND long term goals. 27 or younger? Set goals about 5 years out. Over 27? 3 Year goals are the way to go.
Use If-Then statements.
My ultimate fav tool for productivity, If then statement help you train your mind that whenever a specific situation or opportunity arises (IF), you will conduct a specific action (THEN). Example: If it’s Monday, Wednesday or Friday, Then I’ll Work out After Work.
Don’t let Perfection get in the way of Progress.
With all the specificity and timelines of your career goals you don’t want to get caught up in being uber perfect. Maybe the goal isn/t super specific, or maybe you didn’t check off ALL the actions you set up, that’s ok. Just. Keep. Going.
Change the conversation (with yourself).
When we set a goal, we talk about all the things we WONT do, instead of the things we WILL do. Train your brain to think positively, which will help you actually do the things you need to do to accomplish the goal you want to achieve.
